Supervision & Consultation

I supervise using an apprenticeship model like how I began my private practice. I slowly built a practice while learning to run a business under the license and mentorship of a clinician who also supervised my agency work. I still staffed with my agency supervisors too!

Doing our own vulnerable work leads to greater ability with our clients so supervision with me will focus on use of self in our relationship as well as on client transference and countertransference feelings. I love conceptualizing cases and figuring out caring language for stuck places to allow for more freedom for clinician and client. My supervisees know I am thoughtful, ethical and available for them. We have all grown personally and professionally from the work we do together.

I currently offer couples, individual and group work and used to do teen and family work. I am known to do well with folks others find challenging, including personality or mood lability concerns.

Before grad school, I taught and actively volunteered at Planned Parenthood. At UT, my internships were with pregnant and parenting teens and then at the UT Counseling and Mental Health Center. I earned my LCSW working for Seton as an outpatient DBT and IOP group therapist. Since then, I got intensively trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, completed an 8 year Modern Analytic training program at the NY Center for Group Studies, participated weekly in therapy and in a training group and trained with Stan Tatkin and Terry Real for couples work.

Testimonials

Heather and I started working together four years ago when she became my clinical supervisor. Once we completed supervision I had no desire to stop meeting with her, so we’ve met for weekly consultation since then. Heather is thoughtful, compassionate, and responsive. She has an incisive clinical mind and has helped me with complex client cases; her questions and perception of dynamics in the cases open them up for me. She’s supported my professional growth with a lot of generosity, encouraging me to take on new challenges. She’s willing to challenge in a gentle way and is open to being challenged herself. Heather’s also down to earth, transparent, and fun! She addresses challenging interpersonal situations with grace, and through working with her I’ve become more confident and relaxed with my family and friends, in dating, and with clients. I wholeheartedly recommend her for clinical supervision, consultation, or therapy. – Former Supervisee

Working with Heather in supervision has been great and has aided my growth as a therapist tremendously. I trust her clinical judgement wholeheartedly. Her feedback is always thoughtful, direct, and clinically sound as well as supportive. Heather’s style is relational, honest, and direct but also kind and thoughtful. As a supervisor she is reliable, present, and knowledgeable. Her clinical experience and judgement is always reassuring when staffing challenging cases. I would recommend Heather to any therapist seeking supervision or consultation without hesitation. – Former Supervisee
